Below, you will find a list of the highest paid male and female stars of 2010 detailing just how much they can demand, and some of the movies that have enabled them to be so affluent. It is still surprising that the female stars are still not within the same earnings bracket as the male counterparts, though apparently this is due to the amount of stunts that the men are now required to do, though I’m not too sure whether Angelina Jolie has been questioned on the matter. The list has been compiled on research into the earnings from film revenue from June 2009 through to June 2010:
Johnny Depp: $75 Million
Johnny Depp has a varied and diverse acting career and based upon some of his role choices, not the most obvious choice as a commercial box-office asset. However, since he began starring as Captain Jack in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, which first started with Pirates of the Caribbean the Curse of the Black Pearl, way back in 2003, it has become one of the highest grossing film franchises in recorded history. Ed Wood Scissorhands, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, are among his more quirky choices of characters within films. Combining Depp’s ability to seemingly portray any character with the clout of Walt Disney has produced one of the finest recipes for success within the movie business. His recent appearances in Alice in Wonderland, and Public Enemies have ensured both films have enjoyed massive success at the box office. Johnny Depp is the highest paid actor for 2010.
Angelina Jolie: $27 Million
Starring alongside her father, Jon Voight in the 1982 film, Looking to Get Out, Angelina Jolie made her screen debut. A decade later she was back in the cinemas with a low-budget film, Cyborg2 in 1993. She landed her first leading role in a major box-office success with Hackers in 1995. Receiving critical acclaim for a biographical film, George Wallace, 1997, and Gia in 1998, Angelina Jolie won an Academy Aware for Best Supporting Actress as the lead role in Girl Interrupted in 1999. Angelina is probably best remembered for her stunning and energetic portrayal as Lara Croft, in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001. Established as one of the most famous and one of the highest earning actresses in Hollywood, Angelina Jolie has had huge commercial success with the action-comedy, co-starring with her real-life partner, Brad Pitt, in Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005. Kung Fu Panda was also a great success in 2008. At 38 years old, Angelina Jolie is now averaging $27 million per film, which makes her the highest paid actress for 2010.
Ben Stiller: $53 Million
As a fantastic, comedy actor, Ben Stiller has achieved his success with his acting in Night at the Museum and the Meet the Parents/Fockers franchise. Recently, Stiller seems to have been drawn to doing smaller and less high-profile films such as Greenberg, fairly unknown and only grossed approximately $6 million at the box office. However, if you can earn $53 million per film, you can afford to take your pick. Ben Stiller is the second highest paid actor for 2010.
Jennifer Aniston: $25 Million
As a film actress, film director, and film producer, Jennifer Aniston gained world-wide recognition in the 1990’s as Rachel Green in the huge television sitcom, Friends. Earning an Emmy, a Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award, Jennifer Aniston has also accomplished a successful and rewarding film career. She’s the One in 1996 earned Aniston critical acclaim alongside Office Space, 1999, and The Good Girl in 2002. Bruce Almighty, 2003, Along Came Polly, 2004, The Break-Up 2006, Marley and Me, 2008, and He’s Just Not That Into You in 2009 have ensured that she can now demand a staggering $25 million per film, making her the second highest paid actress for 2010.
Tom Hanks: $45 Million
Tom Hanks, as well as being an actor, is also a producer, writer, and director. Working in television and family targeted comedies, Tom Hanks broke through in the 1988’s Big. Achieving success as a versatile and dramatic actor in several notable roles inclusive of Philadelphia, the starring role in Forrest Gump, the Commander in Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan as Captain John Miller, and You’ve Got Mail and Cast Away. Meryl Streep: $24 Million
As an American actress who has enjoyed success within theatre, television, and film, she is widely regarded as one of the most talented and respected actresses of today. Meryl Streep first walked the boards in 1971 in the The Playboy of Seville, before her screen debut in the television film, The Deadliest Season in 1971. That very same year, she made her film debut in Julia. The Deer Hunter in 1978, and Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979, bought her both critical and commercial success, winning her first Oscar nomination for Kramer vs. Kramer. She was to receive an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1982 for her performance in Sophie’s Choice. Receiving in excess of 16 Academy Award nominations, winning two, and receiving 25 Golden Globe nominations, and winning seven awards, this gives Meryl Streep the highest amount of nominations than any other actor in the history of either the Academy Awards or the Golden Globes. With two Emmy Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Cannes Film Festival award, four New York Film Critics Circle Awards, five Grammy Award nominations, amongst many others. Awarded the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. At the age of 60, Meryl Streep is currently the third highest paid actress at $24 million per film.
Adam Sandler: $40 Million
Known for his sophomoric humour and, at times, silly antics on screen, Adam Sandler is the second comedic actor to make the top ten highest paid actors list for 2010. His most recent film, Grown Ups was the third most successful film at the box office of his career so far. Being able to demand $40 million per film, Adam Sandler is the fourth highest paid actor of 2010.
Sarah-Jessica Parker: $23 Million
At the age of 40, Sarah-Jessica Parker has starred in many television films, but the success of her most recent and popular television series on HBO, Sex in the City, starring as the main character Carrie Bradshaw, ensured major box-office success for the two Sex in the City films. At $23 million per film, Carrie Bradshaw, aka, Sarah-Jessica Parker is the fourth highest paid actress of 2010.
Leonardo DiCaprio: $28 Million
As the lead male actor in Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio is no stranger to box-office success. Shutter Island and Inception were massive box-office successes of 2010 and at $28 million per film; DiCaprio is the fifth highest earning actor of 2010.
Cameron Diaz: $20 Million
At 36, Cameron Diaz is currently earning an average of $20 million per film. Recently Cameron was voted by People magazine as one of the top 50 Most Beautiful People in the World. At $20 million per film she certainly is one of the richest too. Cameron Diaz is the fifth highest paid actress of 2010.
Daniel Radcliffe: $25 Million
Daniel Radcliffe, aka Harry Potter, will find it difficult to move away from the association of the character which may lead to difficulties with landing the acting roles he desires and deserves in the future. However, the Harry Potter franchise has made him a multi-millionaire even before he has become an adult. At $25 million per movie, Daniel Radcliffe is the sixth highest paid actor of 2010.
Sandra Bullock: $15 Million
At 44 years old, Sandra Bullock is ranked as the 14
th richest female celebrity with an estimated fortune of $85 million. She is currently earning an average of $15 million per film which makes Sandra Bullock the sixth highest paid actress of 2010.
Robert Downey Jr.: $22 Million
With a history checkered with alcoholism and substance abuse, it’s great to see that Robert Downey Junior is back on track and is continuing to be a huge box-office draw with films such as Iron Man. At $22 million per film, Robert Downey Junior is the seventh highest paid actor of 2010. Let’s hope he continues to make many more movies that show off his diverse range.
Reece Witherspoon: $15 Million
Earning $15 million per film, Reece is now the seventh highest paid actress of 2010. Sweet Home Alabama, in which she starred the leading female role, was the largest commercial film for her until now.
Tom Cruise: $22 Million
Needing no introduction, Tom Cruise has been a top earner for decades now since first appearing on our cinema screens in Risky Business. The list of successful movies that he has starred in is extensive. At $22 million per movie, Tom is the eighth highest paid actor of 2010.
Nicole Kidman: $12 Million
At 42, Nicole Kidman was nominated in 2001 as Entertainer of The Year. Currently earning $12 million per film, she is the eighth highest paid actress of 2010.
Brad Pitt: $20 Million
Brad Pitt has begun to increase his acting versatility by tackling some of the more off-beat and smaller roles within the more lower-budget scale of film possibly to secure himself amongst more noted and legitimate actors. Brad Pitt is always a huge success at the box-office ensuring “asses on seats” whether that is due to his good looks or acting skills, who knows. At $20 million per film, Brad Pitt is the ninth highest paid actor of 2010.
Drew Barrymore: $12 Million
First starring in ET when just a minor, Drew has gone onto be an extremely respected actress in her adulthood. At 34, she is currently earning $12 million per movie, placing her as the ninth highest paid actress of 2010.
George Clooney: $19 Million
George Clooney has always been a huge draw for the box-office. With a versatile acting range, alongside devastating good-looks, George Clooney brings a certain gravitas that other actors can only aspire to. Currently demanding $19 million per movie, George Clooney is the tenth highest paid actor of 2010.
Renee Zellweger: $10 Million
At 40 years old, Renee is most famous for her roles in the Bridgette Jones movies. Currently earning $10 million per movie, Renee Zellweger is the tenth best paid actress of 2010.
